[DOT 49 CFR 172.201(e)] Save Your Shipping Papers

According to the Department of Transportation at 49 CFR 172.201(e), each person on who provides a shipping paper for a hazardous material must retain a copy of that shipping paper for 375 days after the initial carrier accepts the hazardous material. EPA requires that copies of hazardous waste manifests be retained for three years after the initial carrier accepts the hazardous waste.

Electronic copies of DOT shipping papers are acceptable. All copies must be accessible at or through the shipper's primary place of business. Shipping papers must be made available upon request to authorized officials at reasonable times and locations.
