SARA Title III (EPCRA) Workshop

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA or SARA Title III) requires you to inform your community of the hazardous chemicals that are stored or used at your site, as well as releases of these chemicals to the environment. This course provides you with a complete understanding of what the law requires you to do as well as detailed instructions on how to ensure your facility is in compliance.

Prepare to meet the March 1 deadline for Tier II reports and the July 1 deadline for Toxics Release Inventory (Form R or Form A) reports, by learning how to properly determine if you must submit these reports and learning how to prepare your reports according to EPA’s latest regulations.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify which chemicals are subject to EPCRA reporting
  • Avoid the most common mistake: forgetting to include common OSHA hazardous chemicals such as lead-acid batteries, cleaners, or paint on your Tier II reports
  • Notify the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) of the name of your emergency coordinator
  • Identify releases that trigger immediate notifications and how to report them
  • Submit safety data sheets or a list of hazardous chemicals to the LEPC, state, and fire department
  • Determine whether the chemicals at your site trigger Tier II reports
  • Perform Tier II inventory calculations for liquids, gases, and mixtures
  • Complete and submit Tier II reports
  • Determine if your chemical activities trigger Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Form R or Form A reports
  • Determine if you qualify for any TRI exemptions
  • Complete and submit Form R and Form A reports
  • Meet your EPCRA documentation requirements
  • Handle difficult situations, such as what to do if you failed to file prior year EPCRA reports or need to update past reports

The course handbook, How to Comply with the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, provides step-by-step procedures for compliance with all the latest EPCRA requirements, including threshold planning quantity notification, SDS submission, Tier II reports, Toxic Chemical Release Inventory reports (Form R and Form A) and emergency notification requirements.
